My 1998 Chec S-10 2W brake lights stay on all times.  I replaceed the brake lightswitch and the brake lights still stay on.  I was told that the trouble was in the turning signal switch.  It needs replacing. Could please commit.  Thanks

Hello George,
If the turn signals work ok, it more than likely is not the signal switch.
The signal switch would be low on my list anyway.
I might check the emergency flasher, since it could stick, and it operates both sides at the same time, but that would have the front lights on also.

Do the brake lights stay on with the stoplight switch disconnected?

Van       FOLLOW UP QUESTION:  I've checked the emergency light flasher and it isn't stuck. Yes, the brake lights stay on with the stop-light switch disconnected.

Answer
Hi George,
The turn signal switch is sure a possibility, since the stop light power goes through it, but I haven't seen that problem before.
I am still thinking emergency flasher or the connection in the stoplight switch connector shorted.
Looking at my S10 wireing diagram, I just don't see the signal switch doing it, but if a piece of metal fell loose in it, I guess it could short across in there somewhere.
