Chevrolet Repair: 6.2 diesel blue smoke and poor cold starting, oil consumption, relay control

Question
6.2 diesel in 1982 Winnebago 68,000 miles and regularly serviced. Oil consumption not excessive. Engine runs fine apart from cold starting. Struggles to start from cold and emits blue smoke from both banks which clears after a few seconds. Problem started suddenly not gradually. Any help appreciated.

Answer
Hello David,
I would be checking the glow plug system. Relay, control module, or glowplugs themselves.

If the relay sticks on for some reason, all the glowplugs can be ruined at the same time, so if they check out to be bad, you might consider replacing the control module and relay, as well as the plugs, so the new plugs are not ruined also.
