Chevrolet Repair: car hesitation, chevy caprice, double platinum

Question
I have a 1994 chevy caprice ls, with a 5.7 350..It hesitate when stopped at a red light or stop sign and i have replaced the egr valve(came up on code reader)still hesitates, stopped completely once and replaced fuel pump.Mech said i also need a new distributer for $500, had a complete tune-up yesterday..replaced wire's, pcv checked, checked maf sensor, replaced spark plug's with double platinum s.p.I was prevously told that i also would need a water pump that was leaking down to distributor. do i have to replace the coil pack(distributor) and water pump? or do it have to do with the egr valve?

Answer
I think $500.00 is a little to much for a dist, could be this mechanic is taking you for a ride. If you have a leaking water pump, then I would have it changed.. If the vehicle hesitates, could be a dirty fuel filter, or the egr valve. What I would do is find another shop, and have the vehicle looked at before you spend money on it... Ty
