Question
I own a 2002 Blazer with 66000 miles. Im not sure if two Problems Ive been having are even accociated. My gas pedal will sometime "STICK" and recently my check engine light came on. I had it "Coded" and they said it was because my gas cap wasnt closed. So they cleared it and Im not sure if Im perinoid but its seem I have slow acceleration, my rpms go up to 2200-2500 to shift and the other day when I came to a toll booth if felt as if my car was gonna stall. Please help>>>>>

Answer
A gas cap that is NOT fully closed will cause the CHECK ENGINE light to illuminate possibly for several days AFTER you fix th fuel cap but the CHECK ENGINE light will eventually stay out.

If you REPLACED the gas cap with a DIFFERENT gas cap than what originally came with the vehicle this can be your problem. ONLY use the exact same cap.

I had another person who purchased one of those LOCKING gas caps that requires a key to open and he had the same problem as you. Once he put the original cap back on his problem was resolved.

Next time, when you feel the vehicle NOT running correctly, Loosen the gas cap for a few hours and see if the problem goes away. If it does drive better with the cap loose, You have a problem with your FUEL VENT SYSTEM of which will require being looked at by the dealer.

The CHECK ENGINE light might come back ON but don't worry about it. Simply tighten the cap back on and after several adys the CHECK ENGINE light will go back out.
