Chevrolet Repair: 1993 AstroVan EGR Valve?, chevy astro van, chevy astro

Question
I have a 93 Chevy Astro Van.  Rear wheel drive, automatic, 4.3l
v6 - fuel injected.  (with california emissions)
We moved from California to Iowa 4 months ago. (ethanol in fuel
now)
A few weeks ago, while coming to a stop, the engine started
running rough, the engine light came on, and it stalled.  I had a
hard time starting it again, but it did start.  The check engine
revealed no code, so I thought it was a fluke.
Yesterday, it did the same thing.  Rough idle, then dies.  I had to
open the accelerator all the way for it to start.  It was due for an
oil change, so I changed the oil and air filter. I changed the fuel
filter, which did nothing.  The engine diagnostic reveales code
32 - EGR valve.  Once the engine is running, it runs fine off of
idle with no apparent loss of power.  It just idles very rough.
Does this sound like an EGR valve, or more likely to be an
oxygen sensor?
Any other Ideas?
Thanks.

Answer
You either most likely have:

1. a faulty EGR CONTROLLER. (most common).

2. a faulty EGR valve (sticking).

3. A heavy buildup of carbon in the EGR valve and on the EGR valve seat. (will require removal of the EGR valve to clean the carbon off.

Does NOT involve the oxygen sensor.
