Chevrolet Repair: intake manifold on 02 chevy malibu, intake manifold gasket, chevy malibu

Question
I own 2002 chevy malibu it has about 56k and took in to shop for engine light problem and they diagnosed that problem but also said the intake manifold gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced- I have been doing some searches online and this seems to be a common problem do you have any suggestions this repair is over 600 just for the maifold gasket, thanks

GM has always had this problem. I don't know what their problem sems to be but in most cases that I have found is that when the vehicle was bought NEW and came back in for it's first initial service the technicians are supposed to retorque the bolts and most do NOT do it which leads to early gasket(s) failure over time.

The cost varies from shop to shop to do the work. $600 is a little steep.
