Chevrolet Repair: 73 chevy trans, friction discs, forward gears

Question
I have a 1973 chevy 3/4 ton k20 with the 350 engine and I was told the turbo 350 transmission. When I bought the truck the forward gears in the trans were burned out and I had to replace the friction discs to get it up and running again. After about 2 years of driving the truck just fine, the truck stopped shifting into forward gears again, I think it's the same problem because the trans fluid is very dark and smells burnt. It shifts into reverse just not drive. I'd like to know a couple things, 1 Is there any other problem that might be causing this or do I have to pull the trans again to find out. 2. I'm pricing rebuild kits and could only seem to find kits for th350 and wasn't sure if that would work with the turbo 350 I have. Also I'm not sure the difference between and overhaul kit and a master repair kit.

Answer
The 350 and th350 are basically the same transmission.

You need to order the MASTER repair kit as this kit has all the STEEL AND FIBRE CLUTCHES and everything you need.

The overhaul kit is usually ONLY the gaskets and fibre disks and is NOT what you need.

There are 2 DIFFERENT master kits depending upon the length of the pump that you have in the trans.

One kit is a 9 ring kit and the other is a 5 ring kit.

I have a fully rebuilt 350 for a 2 wheel drive vehicle sitting on my trans rack for the last year that the customer never came back to get. If you want to send me some pictures of your trans, I will send you pictures of mine along with the bell housing bolt pattern and if it will and it should fit your vehicle, You can have it for $100.00 plus the cost of the freight from New Mexico.
