Chevrolet Repair: Cavalier idling, 2000 chevy cavalier, water in the fuel

Question
Hi...
I own a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. It only has just over 50K miles on it, but has been idling hard lately. It also smells of exhaust and the gas mileage is down. Performance seems ok though. What could be causing this?

I brought it in for a tune-up about a month ago, but that didn't stop the hard-idle. What should I do?

Thanks,
Neal

Answer
Without having access to the vehicle the possibilities are endless.

Things you can try:

1. try a can of DRY GAS or similar product in the fuel tank every other fill-up of gas for the next 3 times just in case you got some water in the fuel tank.

2. You may have a residue buildup around the throttle plate area of which is quite common and can be cleaned using a cleaning agent available at any auto parts store, just ASK the clerk.

3. What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made.
