Chevrolet Repair: engine rebuild 91 S-10 4.3, baering, pipe wrench

Question
have just installed crank,& pistons. when I torqe them down to 80 pounds on mane caps & 45 on rod caps, I can't turn the crank by hand. have new standard bearings & rings & pistons are 30 over.should I be worried? I can turn only if I use a long pipe wrench but I don't want to do this because it will damage the end of the crank. Got specs from Haynes. Hope they are right! 91 S-10 4.3

Answer
Personally I do NOT like a HAYES book.

I have 1989 specs on the 4.3 and they are:

80 lbs on the mains and 45 on the rod. MY GOD, The HAYES book agrees, What a SURPRISE.

Did you measure the ROD side clearnace between the connecting rod and the crankshaft ?. It should be 0.006-0.014 inch.

Did you measure the crankshaft END play with the crankshaft pushed all the way FORWARD ?. The correct clearnace should be maesured from in FRONT of the raer main baering cap and the crankshaft and be within 0.0002-0.0006 inch.

How did you determine that you needed bearings of 30 over ?. Did you use PLASTI-GAGE to determine the correct size bearings ?.

Your POSITIVE that you marked the main and rod caps to be SURE you reinstalled them back in the same order.

Did you PULL the engine to install the crank or are you doing it with the engine IN the vehicle ?.
