Chevrolet Repair: chevy 98 lumina, cold weather, pivot point

Question
since the onset of cold weather the shifter has become very stiff ( automatic )making it difficult for my wife to shift from park to drive... with a peroidic warm up it returns to normal. this year is the first winter the car is not garage kept

Answer
Hi Mike, I have had great luck just lubing the pivot point under the steering column. Remove the 2 screws holding the lower panel just in front of your knees and pull it down just a little to lube the pivot with WD40. Now work the shifter from park to low a bunch of times. This should help out and make it better.
