Land Rover Repair: transfer case jumps out of low ratio an diff lock, diff lock, discovery 3

Hi, iv got a 93 discovery 3.5 with auto, with a transfer box that wont stay in low ratio or diff lock an keeps jumping out of gear into neutral, transfer box works ok in high ratio, console is removed an all linkages are free and diff lock lever seems to have a vague feel to it when taken out of high and attempted to be put in low an there is an excessive amount of play in the selector shaft that goes in the side of the transfer box thats causing the vague feeling in diff lock lever

99% of these problems are in the linkage but you may have one of the ones that is in the box.  Luckily for you the boxes are simple to take apart with ordinary hand tools.  You can search online for the RAVE CD service manual set which includes the overhaul manual for this transfer case.
