Chevrolet Repair: power steering, flow control valve, faulty component

Question
My 91 Chev Astro steering sticks and then pops free with some steering force after a cold night
the first time I use it to turn left only. I rebuilt the power steering pump recently to fix leaks and use Valvoline synthetic fluid.

Answer
You DID replace the power steering FLOW CONTROL VALVE When you rebuilt the pump ?.

You DID flush out the lines ?.

You ARE using the factory recommended type of fluid ?.

The only other issue would be a small piece of foreign material has worked it's way into the steering gear and or the steering gear developed an internal blockage.

You will need to install a power steering test gage onto the system so as to monitor the pressures to see if they meet the manufactures specifications in order to positively identify the faulty component.
