Chevrolet Repair: Temp guage, temperature sending unit, guage

I noticed just today - taht my temp guage in my 2001 Malibu - did not move - I do not notice any fluid leaking from my car and it is running normal - any idea what could cause this - and is this a normally a major issue and what shoudl I look for - to see if this is a major repair?

Its probally your temperature sending unit located, next to the water pump. It gives a signal, to the guage when the coolant is hot. You can drive the vehicle will not hurt anything, but your guage will not work until this is replaced.. Ty...
