Chevrolet Repair: fuel pump replacement, true thanks, fuel pump

Question
Working on a 93 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd ext. cab.350 eng.Any tips on changing the fuel pump? I've heard it's easier to pull the  bed than drop the tank. Is this true?  Thanks for any input.

Answer
Hello Randy,
I work on a floor hoist, with a transmission jack, so I drop the tank at work.
In the driveway, I have done it both ways on a truck just about like yours, a step side, and really it is a toss up.
If the tank is full, and you happen to have about four husky friends, moving the bed back a few feet might be a little easier.
But if the tank is empty, and you are working alone, dropping it isn't bad.
Before moving the bed, make sure you can break loose all the mounting bolts. They rust some.
I assume you have checked for power to the pump, and a good clean tight ground connection at the frame near the left rear wheel?
Good luck,
Van
