Chevrolet Repair: Turn signal clicking on a truck we are looking at, emergency flasher, signal flasher

Question
Hi Van,
We are looking at a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4. It has a Vortec engine and 157000 miles. It has been extremely well taken care of, but there is one thing we are worrying about. When you start it up, the turn signals click even though they are not on. The guy selling the truck says that it does not do it all of the time. The turn signals work fine, and the amp gauge seems to click with the turn signal sound. When we push the hazard button on the steering column, the sounds stops for a minute then does it again. We are thinking a short somewhere in the steering column? If that's what it is, it has airbags so approx. how expensive is it going to be? Does it have to be taken to a shop because of the airbag? Thanks for any advice...Please get back to me asap..We are supposed to let the guy know today.

Answer
Hi Kris,
Another item that will click like that is a circuit breaker, like for power seats or electric windows.
You could remove the signal flasher, and the emergency flasher, and see if the clicking happens then.
When you push the hazzard button, the sound stops?
I would want the flashers to flash, and the sound to be there when they are flashing.
At any rate, that didn't really answer the question you asked.
The air bag doesn't create any great problem. Just follow the proceedures in all the manuals to deactivate it.
