Chevrolet Repair: water pump, water pump, timing belt

Question
I have a 2.8 L V6 1986 chevy celeb. 6 bolt no a/c.
My water pump has broken and when I checked my owners manule to see how to fix it, it says that I half to make a contraption to hold the timing belt while I do it, because the timing belt and the water pump are put together. (not the best design)Now from the picture I have figured out how to make it; however, the instructions do not tell me what type of material I am saposed to use. eg. metal, wood, plastic... can u help?

Answer
Hello, No need to make this tool to do the job. Just remove the bolts that hold the pump onto the timing cover and remove the pump. The reason they want you hold the cover is to make sure that the timing cover doesn't break away from the block surface. I have never used this tool and have done a bunch of pumps without ever having a problem.

Let me know how you make out
