Chevrolet Repair: Location of heater box, resistor pack, s10 blazer

Question
Hi Van,
Can you tell me where I can find the heater box on my 1998 Chevy Venture?  The lower settings on the fan switch are not working so I was told that it's a resistor problem.  This resistor is located on the heater box and should be replaced ( this is the information I got from a chat room )
Thanks,
Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,
If the Venture system is the same as a S10 Blazer, it is under the hood, in front of the passengers area, just in front of the firewall.
There is a connector with about six or seven wires.
On the Blazer, it is necessary to actually cut into the heater box around the connector to remove the resistor pack. Then melt it back into place with a solder gun.
Before doing any cutting like that, I would first make SURE you are doing it correctly, so a service manual for your truck is a necessity.
I would go to the public library, in the refference section. They have all the manuals you can immagine.
In a regular pickup slightly older than yours, you remove the glove compartment, and on top of the heater box is the connector, and two screws holding it into the box.
Good luck,
Van
