Chevrolet Repair: chevy malibu 2000, chevy malibu 2000, caliper piston

Question
I have vibration when driving at speeds over 60 mph.  Also, when I apply the brakes the steering wheel and the brake pedal vibrate vigorously at speeds over 50 mph.  The vibration does not appear during low speeds or at least not noticable in the steering wheel.

The front pads and rotors were replaced 2 weeks ago. The vibration was there before the rotors were replaced and it is still there. I have not done anything with the rear.

I hear a "ping" noise when I release the brake pedal.  I am not sure if it is coming from the pedal or the brakes (seems to be coming from the pedal).

Please Help.

Thank You,
Mike Young

Answer
Hello Mike, Well the first thing I would do is balance all 4 wheels and rotate them front to rear. Road test and see if this changed anything. If not the next thing to do is replace the rotors AGAIN. I have seen rotors out of the box do this. Also make sure  that the pads are installed correctly, there is a inside and outside pad. There is a tab on the top of the pad and one is short and the other long. Off the top of my head I don't know where the long goes but I think on the caliper piston side. Look at the metal piece on the caliper and you will see where they belong.

Let me know how you make out
