Chevrolet Repair: replace differential bearing front drivers side, slide hammer, seal area

how do we get the axle out of the differential? This is a 1989 Chevy s-10 4x4 pick-up.

I assume you have gotten it out of the wheel?
To remove it from the differential housing, they say to use a slide hammer, but something that can jar it while pulling pressure is applied should cause the snap ring in the taper inside the side gear to compress and slide out. Maybe a little gentle prying and smack it with a hammer, but don't destroy the seal area.
