Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Astro Van AWD automatic transmission, astro van, torque converter

Question
Hi; This van has 43000 miles on it. When I stop on an incline and take my foot off the brake the van will roll in the opposite direction of what gear it is in only after it has warmed up good. It still shifts and drives good. Does this need immediate attention by a professional. Thanks. Bruce

Answer
Hello Bruce, I consider this to be normal. The reason it rolls back is that the engine is at idle and depending on how steep the hill is, the automatic transmission torque converter will slip. This is not a bad thing! Just normal.
The torque converter is a fluid coupler and there will be slippage at idle. Hope this puts your mind at ease.
