Chevrolet Repair: dead 1985 chevy S-10, tcc solenoid, mechanic friend

Question
I just bought a 1985 chevy s10. i had a mechanic friend of mine check it out and we took it for a good test drive. everything seemed fine, maybe a small worry about emmissions. anyway i brought it home and got some things i needed tires, etc. while i was driving it would sometimes stall at stops. i dont know if its the IAC or even where it is, but i would just crank the engine and keep driving. the next day it started fine until i got to a stop sign. it stalled again and wouldnt crank over.  i tried push starting it but it seemed like it wasnt getting fuel even though it has a new fuel pump. would you think it would have anything to do with ignition/IAC/fuel? any suggestions are appriciated THANKS Greg.

Answer
check for a tcc solenoid. has been an issue with gms for a long time.  i doubt its fuel or the iac but i would still check those. im leaning towards the tcc solenoid. it tells the tranny wha gear its in and if that goes the comp dont know what gear its in. try starting a manual in 3 or 4, it wont work, that is what is happensing. also check the egr valve, it might be shot as well.
