Chevrolet Repair: car wont start, chevrolet impala, chevy impala

Question
i have a 1996 chevrolet impala, and i went to the store, came out and the car didn't want to start.i drove it home and later on the same day the car wouldn't start at all. i changed the fuel filter, still din't start. there is no fuel pressure on the line, does it need to be purged?and if not, what else could it be?it's a chevy impala super sport, the year is 1996.

Answer
Hi Ken, This sounds like you need a new fuel pump to me. I would test for power at the pump in the tank and if you have power replace the pump. There is this trick also...have someone crank the engine while you bang on the fuel tank with a large hammer. Be sure to really hit the bottom of the tank. If the car now starts replace the pump.
