Chevrolet Repair: wont idle, throttle position sensors, air control valve

Question
I have a 88 chevy pickup with the 4.3 liter engine. My problem is when I first start it in the morning it dosent have that high idle. And it has a hard time to idle, I think the rpm is probably about 200-400 rpms. When I come to a stop sign I have to hold the brake and gas pedals or it will die out. Is there a way to make the idle higher? It has fuel injection. Could it be the TPS? Any help would be great.

Answer
Hi Larry,
Some throttle position sensors are adjustable, and that could do it, although I would recommend having a manual to go by when doing it.
The idle air control valve could also cause it if it is somewhat dirty, and it can be cleaned, usually while still on the throttle body.
Engine timing is another possibility, but again, the manual would be a good idea, and can be read, and copied at the public library, refference section.
