Chevrolet Repair: Air Conditioning, chevy astro van, chevy astro

Question
Hello Van,
I own a 1989 Chevy Astro van. The air conditioning isn't working, although the unit,(compressor, etc.) is there. I wonder if it would be cheaper to have it tested and repaired, or have a new one installed?
By the way..can one still get those air conditioners that sit in between the seats or on the console like the old "Sears" brand ones? Would that type be cheaper.
Thank you very much. Mike Eidson

Answer
Hi Mike,
You could be just low on freon. This might be a good time to retrofit to R134a freon...much cheaper.
Thermo King in OK City sells Red Dot A/C's that stand between the seats, but they are kinda noisy, in my opinion. Here is a link I ran across not long ago, also.
