Chevrolet Repair: Wicked Coolant Leak - What Gives?, intake manifold gasket, coolant leak

Question
Re 1988 Corvette - Yesterday I experienced a sudden onset coolant leak after a short drive. Coolant was literally streaming out of the back of the block between the oil pan and the transmission pan. The leak continued for quite a while after stopping the engine. When I added water to the radiator the leak resumed at the same rate without the engine running. Today I pulled up on ramps and it appears the leak is coming from the upper back driver's side of the block. It is hard to tell exactly where. The engine runs normal, nothing unusual from exhaust , and oil on dipstick is fine.  No foam in coolant. I guess the most distinguishing feature is that the leak is the same with or without the engine running and continues until the overall water level is presumably below the leak. Any ideas on what I am dealing with or how to proceed? Thanks, Tom

Answer
Hello Tom, Well if I had to make a good guess on where the coolant leak is I would say from the intake manifold gasket. This gasket was a common repair on this year. I have never seen a headgasket go bad on this engine and no freeze plug leaks. See if you can get I look at the back of the intake with a mirror to see the leak.
