Chevrolet Repair: 94 s10 blazer wont start, s10 blazer, fuel guage

Question
I have a 94 s10 blazer that will not start. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and I have a relay but not for sure where it goes. My chilton only goes to 93 and states that it is under the dash, I have yet to find it though. I did find two relays under the hood on on the drivers side I swapped each out with this new relay and it did not fix the problem. I think my pump is not getting any power as the car will start with starting fluid, and I cannot hear the pump cycle when turning the ignition to the on position. I also noticed after changing out the fuel pump my gas gauge is pegged past the full mark but there is only roughly 5 gallons of gas in the tank. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Josh,

The fuel pump relay should be in the glovebox.  Open it up and take everything out.  There is a little panel at the back that says relay's on it.  Pull the clip down and the panel comes out.  The fuel pump relay is the second one from the left I think.  If you turn the key on that relay should energize for 2 seconds and begin to energize when the vehicle gets an RPM reference when cranking.
The fuel guage is most likely open because of two things.  If the float rod got caught on the edge of the tank when you put it in the resistance strip might not be touching anymore causing it to go open and the guage reads full when open.  There is a sock on the end of the pump that sometimes gets caught on the baffle and curls up and forces the float to stay in the full position.  Sounds like your pulling the tank again. Sorry.
