Chevrolet Repair: headlights & dash light switch, dash light, chevrolet dealer

Question
I purchased a switch from the chevrolet dealer and thought it would be easy to install However I found out I have to first undo the shaft but I cannot see the release button on the one in the van. I can see it on the new switch but I have no idea how it is set in the van. I can not tell by looking at it which way the switch is mounted. Are the wire connectors mounted on the top or side . If I know that then I can push in the release button to take the shaft off. Also is it necessary to remove whole front panel including all the gages first. Thank you

Answer
Hi Nick,
Sorry...I was out of town, and put myself on vacation, but I guess they missed that.
I would say get down there and compare the switch in hand.
You might also use a mirror and light to get a better look.
Normally, the whole panel does not need to be removed.
You didn't say what type of vehicle you are working on.
Good luck,
Van
