Chevrolet Repair: 1995 Chevrolet Lumina Van (177,000 approx), chevrolet lumina, 1995 chevrolet lumina

Question
I took above vehicle into Canadian Tire, engine ran smooth up until around 80km then it ran rough and car hestitated and fibrated, then it smoothed back out again.  They diagnosed it as the ignition coil, replaced the coil - same problem - took it back they said coil defective - replaced coil - same problem - took it back they changed the wires - in less than one hours driving time the engine starting ticking and the entire dashboard lit up and the vehicle lost power.  Canadian tire then told me that I need a new engine to the tune of $4,000.00

What do you think the problem is or was? I had just changed the spark plugs two months earlier and it had an oil change at the same time.

Answer
If the vehicle started ticking, and lost power could of been the engine siezed up without oil in the motor. 177, thousand miles is alot for a engine. What I would do is junk the vehicle and find another one. It will cost you more money in repairs.. TY,,
