Chevrolet Repair: i need help on my chevy, chevrolet c, anchorage alaska

Question
hi i need help on how to repair a 1990 chevrolet c/k series 1500.the engine has been replaced several times and we have had a beefed up tranny put in.Its just a little v6 and i love the truck but it just needs to be fixed and i dont have the money to do so. we have been using it as a plow truck in anchorage, alaska for about 5 years now. one of my dad's friends just by chance ran into a light pole. and some how the steering colum loosened so much that you can move it into a full 360 degrees without turning the wheel at all. i can shake the wheel so much. i have asked some of the guys around town and they said that the transmission has moved so the wheel has become detached or loose. i dont know and i need some help before i can fix it or i can take it somewhere to be fixed. i would just like to know your professional advice or know how.

Answer
Hi Ed, If the base of the column is mounted and not moving with the steering wheel then the 4 bolts that connect the column together at the top are loose. This would make the wheel loose at the top while the lower part stayed still. You would need to take the column all the way down to the bolts to repair this and will require some special tools.

Might be easier to get a used column that you can just bolt in.
