Chevrolet Repair: starter, battery cable, screwdriver

Our 1994 chevy s20 van is not starting.  My nephew got it to start a month ago by touching a screwdriver to the starter.  First, where is the starter and next, how do I do that?  Also, how quickly will I need to replace the starter?  My nephew said that it may not need to be replaced for a while.  Money is extremely tight and I am not very knowledgeable in this area.

Any help would be appreciated.

Before you try using a screwdriver, and starting the vehicle clean the connections to the battery, and the starter itself. Follow the red positive battery cable down to the engine, and it will lead you right to it.. Let me know how it goes,, Thanks..
