Chevrolet Repair: 96 Chevy Silverado engine noise, chevy silverado, power steering pump

Question
i have a 96 Chevy with about 120,000 miles.  i live in minnesota and a couple weeks ago during some particularly cold weather, i noticed that i was getting some 'whirring' or 'humming' sound coming from engine.  this increases when i accelerate.  i thought it was something to do with the cold temps, but now that its warmed up, im still hearing it.  it almost sounds electrical in nature...
i'd appreciate any ideas.

thanks

Answer
That noise could be coming from anywhere, to the power steering pump, water pump, timing belt or alternator. I would have someone rev the engine a little with the hood up, and try to listen to where its coming from. A bad belt will also cause noise.. TY..
