Chevrolet Repair: My 96 S-10 4x4 4.3L, fuel injection system, tune ups

Question
I seem to have nothing but problems with my s-10. I have replaced the (EGR?) valve, fuel injection system (the"spyder"), and countless $ on tune-ups and attempts to get it running smoothly. Now I have to face new tires, alignment, shocks, and shot throw-out bearings (so a whole new clutch), all on a vehicle with over 135,000 miles. I loved the truck when it was running good, but know it seems to be sucking me dry. In your opinion, is it worth putting this much money into it at this age? And how expensive would it be to find a used replacement engine and throw it in my truck down the road?   Thanks for your help.

Answer
C"Mon Kevin,
Some of what you mention is wear and tear, which needs to be done to anything that has a bunch of miles.
A throwout bearing doesn't mean that you need anything but a throwout bearing. If the clutch is in good shape, put it back in.
Of course if you have someone else doing the work, they stand to make more money by replacing more stuff, weather needed or not, and also, in order to not have a comeback, will sometimes replace something not necessarily needed to"Make Sure"
Now you could do some of that yourself and save a bunch.
Tires, alignment, and shocks?? Everything needs them...they are wear items.
I never saw anything need a complete fuel injection system...did someone put some sugar in your gas?
If the truck isn't all rusted out, you haven't mentioned anything that would cause me to condemn the truck.
Good luck,
Van
