Buick/Olds: Antifreeze, buick park ave, fine thomas

Question
Hello... I have a 96 Buick Park Ave. and I notice that the manual is very emphatic about not using any antifreeze other than the "specially formulated" GM Buick antifreeze.  I would like to know if this is true.  I have used "generic" antifreeze in many vehicles and have had no bad effect on the cooling systems.  Should I go to he expence of getting "GM Buick" antifreeze from a dealer or will the standard product be just as good.  Thank You......  Jim

Answer
I never suggest that you deviate from what the manufacturer recommends. There are several DIFFERENT types of ant-freeze and as long as you get a GENERIC that states that it is compatable for GM or BUICK products and follow the directives on the container, You should be just fine.
