Chrysler Repair: Loss of power: 2006 PT

Been having major issues lately with the car. First of all it over heated today, put coolant in let it cool down and then was able to drive it home with no problem. I am having issues with it not being able to accelerate up hills or even trying to merge onto the road way, when I accelerate it chugs like it wants to die. It does the same thing if I have to stop at a light, it wants to chug and sputter. When I turn my wheels left or right to sharp it will actually die on me. Are these problems related or do I have more than one problem. Please help I would be most grateful. I can't be without a car.

Hi Kathy,
The engine control module has self-diagnostic capability to tell us a fault code number(s) that would explain why you have these problems. The way to find out is to get a fault code readout using a Code Reader that plugs into a socket under the dash. Some nationwide auto parts stores (e.g. Autozone) will often do that for free, or an independent shop will charge around $40. The codes have 4 digits and are preceded by a P. Once you have the codes let me know and then I can tell you what to do. The person who gives you the code number(s) should be able to tell you the title of the code as well.
Getting a fault code is the best way to start to deal with these issues.
As to the coolant loss, do you see any on the ground where you parked it? If so, can you see what part of the engine/cooling hoses are directly above that spot? If not, then the next time you start the engine after it has cooled down completely immediately get out of the car and observe the tailpipe to see if there is an excessive or prolonged presence of white smoke coming out. That would be the sign of some sort of head gasket leak.
