Chrysler Repair: Engine wont crank. Alarm system?

Question
My 1999 chrysler lhs will not start. I have had someone look at it and was told it's alarm system. My key pad lock battery went dead so I put new ones in I have tried locking and unlocking by key and pad but my car still won't start. When I try there is a click sound coming from the relay box.. I need my car running today to make it to work tomorrow.. please try and help

Answer
Hi Crystal,
What does the alarm system LED light on top of the dash indicate as to the status of that system? Is it off, on, flashing?
The alarm system initially does not stop the engine from cranking over the starter motor, rather it lets the engine start but then shuts it down in a couple of seconds after it starts. So the alarm is probably NOT the issue here UNLESS you tried unsuccessfully 6 or more times to start it and it started and then died 6 times and at that point it does go into a shutdown where not even the starter motor will be allowed to crank. But since you hear a relay click I believe that the alarm system may not be totally stopping you from even cranking the engine.
You could open the relay box and feel whether it is the starter relay that is clicking when a helper tries to start it. The fuel pump relay also will click so do verify that it is the starter relay that is clicking. The location of the relays should be shown on the box or its lid (fuel relay is the inboard-most relay, starter is the 4 relay from the inboard end of the box).
It may be rather that the battery is too weak to crank the starter motor, or the cables on the battery may be loose, or that the starter motor isn't working. So I would suggest that you check the battery cables at the battery (remove the intake air filter housing, then the battery splash shield under that housing), then try to get help of another vehicle and with jumper cables attach those between its battery and your battery, then start the helper car, then try and start you LHS. If the starter motor still doesn't respond then we need to check the circuit from the starter relay (which is what you hear clicking in the power box now) and the starter motor.
So tell me the status of the light and the relays, and unless after the engine starts it promptly shuts down after a couple of seconds then THAT is clearly a still alarmed security system. If you don't have the help of another car owner with jumper cables then the battery will need to be charged with a plug-in charger if it is parked near an electrical outlet and you have or can borrow a battery charger.
Have you not driven the car recently, or have you repeatedly tried starting the engine and then having it shut down quickly as I described, in which case either of those would explain why your battery is weak?
Also, do you have the Security Key system (there would be bulge in the head of the key if so?
Please read the PS (below) and respond to it.
Thanks,
Roland
