Chrysler Repair: trs plug removal from transmission: 41TE

QUESTION: Hi Roland, I am trying to remove the valve body from my 2005 pacifica to replace the range sensor.  The last thing I need to do is remove the wiring harness and it won't come loose. There seems to be a red piece on the side but I cant figure if i should pinch or pull because it is at such a awkward spot.

ANSWER: Hi Christine,
The process for removing the trs first involves removing the valve body which is a very extensive process according to the manual and involves supporting the engine, etc. and then dropping the pan out the bottom of the trans to then remove the valve body to which the range sensor is attached.
Is that what you are trying to do? Do you have the instructions for that job? I can copy and send those pages to you if you tell me your email address (but don't use "@", rather use "at" or the address will be erased).
Are you talking about the plug on the solenoid pack? I am not certain that removing the solenoid pack is what you want to do to replace the range sensor.
But there is nothing mentioned in the manual for the trs plug's removal. I suspect that you gently pry the piece (retaining tab) out slightly to release its grip on the plug socket. I haven't done it myself so don't have experience.

QUESTION: Thanks Roland, This plug is what's holding the valve body and it is so awkward to reach.  My original problem was when I stopped my car and put it in park to get out and get the mail. When I got back in my car the dash read reverse and the car was in park and would only go in reverse. I spoke to a parts guy and he talked to the machenic and he said change the range sensor. To do that he said remove the transmission pan and all the bolts holding the valve body and then the two other pieces had to be reached under the hood. I detached the one but this last piece is just so hard to reach and maneuver a screwdriver and pinch and pull. Why do they make things so difficult!!!! Hi Christine,
I understand that you are at the very last step to drop out the valve body and can appreciate all the work you have done so far. If you are speaking of the plug on the trs proper, all I can offer is that it appears from the schematic drawing of the plug is that it has a tab which is part of plug proper and from that I would believe that if you gently insert the tip of a  thin bladed screwdriver into the tab-socket interface that should then stretch the tab enough for the tab 'lock' to be released when you pull on the plug. I don't see anything in the manual pages that suggest specifically an unusual issue with the plug's removal. If you have the replacement trs  see what that shows about the interface.
I sent the pages for changing out the trs once you have the valve body removed.
