Question
QUESTION: Hi. I am writing about the ETC light that came on my Chrysler's 2005 300 Touring's Screen Couple of days ago. I did not start my Car for a week because i drive my other car to work. When I started my 300 couple of days ago, It turned on and suddenly shuts off. Happened like couple of times and when i tried to turn it on  for the third time, engine stopped responding and ETC light came on. I read the manual and even tried talking to Chrysler service department. They said,Your battery may not be good. But i checked it ,everything runs Good like doors , music and lights. I am a student, Can't afford to get it towed and play some couple hundred bucks just for diagnose.

Any Solutions that i can do it myself. My mechanic told me , Your security system is locked and only dealership can unlock it.

ANSWER: May I ask what the term ETC stands for?

QUESTION: ETC- Electronic Throttle Control.

ANSWER: I am puzzled by a light by that name, can you verify that in the manual? You might try turning the ignition switch "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch to see if the odometer reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a letter. Those would be diagnostic troble codes. I am not certain that works in the '05 but give it a try. Might the light be for the vehicle theft security system?

QUESTION: Okay. The symbol is just like two Curved Lines curving  inside and a  Lighting Symbol In the center. It says in the manual, Electronic Throttle Control Unit.

Here , that written in the Manual.

20. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Light
This light informs you of a problem with the
Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem
is detected the light will come on while
the engine is running. Cycle the ignition key
when the vehicle has completely stopped and the selector is placed in the PARK position. The light
should turn off. If the light remains lit with the engine
running your vehicle will usually be drivable, however,
see your dealer for service as soon as possible. If
the light is flashing when the engine is running,
immediate service is required and you may experience
reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine
stall and your vehicle may require towing. The
light will come on when the ignition is first turned on
and remain on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does
not come on during starting, have the system checked
by an authorized dealer.

Answer
HI Jas,
I wonder which engine you have (L)? I wonder wether this might have to do with this being a car that was first sold in Canada? If you can go to any good independent garage and get them to do a fault code readout for about $40 (sometimes nationwide autoparts stores like Autozone will do it for free) then we would have a specific diagnostic trouble code (a 4-digit number preceded by a P). Let me know what you learn either via the key or a code readout. The ETC may be a term used in Canada, or maybe for a diesel engine?
