Chrysler Repair: 96 LHS: multi-function switch flaky headlamp contact, windshield wipers, tilt column

Question
I have a 1996 Chrysler LHS 4D,I bought it "salvaged" but it was repaired and I need to get it inspected.Anyway,I turned on my blinkers, they worked and then my headlights(using the stick behind the steering wheel,on the left, that you use to also turn on you windshield wipers and blinkers) They work BUT only when i keep my hand on the handle to hold the handle in place.Do you know how I can fix this problem?Someone told me that the steering wheel has to come off in order for the part(the stick thing) to be replaced,Because it may be jammed and not able to click to stay in place(to keep the headlights on)Would that cost alot??And any suggestions?Answers?Anything?I'm super stuck

Answer
Hi Cash'mere,
The multi-function switch can be removed without removing the steering wheel. You could try spraying some electrical contact cleaner (available at an electronics store) inside the switch where the contacts are located to see if that restores the function. If not you can get one off a wreck:
Tilt column up, remove 6 screws from the lower column cover
Tilt column down and remove upper column cover
Tile column up and remove one steering column tilt lever screw at base of tilt lever. Remove tilt lever and lower shroud.
Using screwdrive in place of lever tilt the column down
Remove two mounting screws on switch. Remove wiring from hooks and disconnect two electrical connection on multifunction switch, then remove switch. Install is the reverse.
You might try removing the switch down to the point where you disconnect the wiring to get access to some seams of the switch box, and then squirt the spray contact cleaner inside to see if that fixes it. If not, remove the switch and see if you can figure out how to restore the contacts that aren't working, and if not then go to a pull-it-yourself wrecking yard for a replacement. I think any 93=97 LH body car will have the identical switch.
