Chrysler Repair: 02 town and country: tranny problem, solenoid pack, coolant temp

Question
I acquired a 2002 town and country that has a tranny in limp mode. I replaced the solenoid pack to get rid of a code 750 but still in limp mode. Gauges and speedo work fine and scanning gets a code 700 and the only thing out of the normal range is the temp of the tranny says 1000'. Is this possibly the cause for the limp mode? What is the fix? Thanks Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
I am not clear how you got the 1000' reading and what it means. By a code readout, or a more sophisticated diagnostic box? There are codes for the temp of the trans being out of whack (711, 712, 713).
Usually one would expect another trans code when you get a 700. Did you use a reader that gives you the trans codes?
The trans temp sensor is on pin 4 of the trans range sensor plug and connects to pin 54 of the tcm on a dark green/orange wire. You would do well to check the continuity of that wire. The sensor is a like any other on the engine and just varies in its resistance to ground (in this case pin 13 of the same tcm plug. I suspect it may read 4,000 or so ohms when cold, and drops to around 1,000 at 200F, if it is like an engine coolant temp sensor. Maybe the 1,000 you got was just a resistance reading. I am not sure what the proper reading should be. I believe the voltage on the sensor wire should be somewhere between .078 and 4.94 volts, otherwise a 712 of 713 code is set. The 711 code is related to a too slow warm up of the unit.
Until we find a code that causes limp, I don't know what I can  suggest.
