QUESTION: Chrysler Sebring Limited 2006, GTC 2dr Convertible (2.7L 6cyl 4A).   I tried to replace the air filter and actually detached it from the air inlet tube (thanks  to a Louis Vitolano - 2/27/2008, answer to a similiar question) and pulled out the old filter & then put in the new one. I managed to get the whole mess back together, although one side of the filter cover is not tightly fastened down (tubular filter).
Does this possible air leak present a problem? If so I will have to take it to an auto shop because I can't figure out how to set it.

Question 2:  Why are air filters so hard to replace? The shells are built like banks. Is it something to do with the computer?

ANSWER: Hi Al,
The housing should be sealed if at all possible. I have a CD of the '06 manual that shows the steps to replace the filter. The easiet way to get you all the details is for me to copy the pages from a CD of the manual and attach them to an email that I send directly to you, not via Allexperts.  So I need to know your email address which I don't ever see here at Allexperts. You have to tell me it directly in a question you ask me. To do that you will need to ask a NEW question and in the question space tell me that email address. Then check the box to 'keep question private' or the address will be erased and I won't get it. Follow these instructions exactly and it will work.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which Kevin had referred it. I don't have an explantion for why the filter housing is designed this way, but I do believe that in order to meet the requirements for emission limitations the system is designed to be tight and has monitors along the pathways to verify that.

Hi Al,
The only thing that didn't work is that you didn't ask for the pages and provide the email address by a NEW question where you also checked the box to keep the question PRIVATE. Thus you will notice that your email address on this folow-up question got deleted automatically. So try again with a new message and the private box checked.
