Chrysler Repair: 99 minivan: autostick not working, transmission control module, overdrive switch

Question
1999 grand caravan 3.8 137,000 mi. with the auto stick. Sifting through many sites on the web, yours was by far the most helpful in fixing the p1698 code. I found the #11 wire from the tcm broken in the loom at the speed sensor. My ?, is the auto stick and the overdrive switch not working related to more problem wires or is it something else entirely?  They did not work prior to the p1698 code.

Answer
Hi Steve,
The autostick feature is not related specifically or dependent upon the digital communication problem of 1698.
The transmission control module operates those features based upon what choice of resistors to ground which are programmed into the switch are presented to it. The wire at the switch that should show ground (black/yellow) in on pin 2 of the switch, while pin 1 of the switch is a yellow/violet wire that goes to pin 55 of the tcm which is observing the values of resistance. I would verify that those wires are continuous, and then verify that the switch indeed shows some finite and different values of resistance between pins 1 and 2 except in the off position which should be 'open'.
