Chrysler Repair: 04 2.7 ltr: coolant leak from opening below thermostat housing, coolant leak, screw hole

Question
just installed thermostat in car theres a screw hole just below thermostat housing that is leaking antifreeze what do i do

Answer
Hi Chuck,
That is a 'weep' hole for the waterpump and is expected to loose a modest amount normally.  It is indicative of a seal in the waterpump beginning to leak.
The manual states: "It is normal for a small amount of coolant from the primary weep hole (black stain at weep passage). Do not replace the water pump if this condition exists. Replace the water pump if a heavy deposit or a steady flow is evident from the weep passage, which would indicate a seal failure and pump must be replaced."
So it is a matter of 'degree' as to when the pump seal is leaking sufficiently to prompt replacement.
