Chrysler Repair: 1997 town and country bizzare problem, fluid leaks, temp gauge

Question
Hi,
I have a 1997 town and country that runs fine while idling but when i drive more than a few miles power sterring fluid leaks from reservior and smells very burnt and heat radiates from below the engine yet my temp gauge works fine. It get so hot, it will not start until engine cools down. i dont know if this is related, but the gauges also will also go dead around the same time , check engine light and abs light on, then car will stall, move slow and then die for about an hour then start back up again. Whining sound while turning and whistle while idling, sounds like a bad belt too. Super hot under the hood but temp gauge is always in the middle until  gauges go dead. Code 66 is the only code that comes up on scanner. Please help, i've been told 3 different things , rack and pinion, reservior seal, PS pump or plugged tranny line. please help me.

Answer
Ther is no common denominator for all the conditions which you listed. So to venture a guess at what will fix your problem or at least steer you in a direction that would lead to a repair, is something that I will not do. You have multiple concerns that need to addressed seperately. Taking the power steering concern first, I would check the return lines and resevior for flow restrictions. It could be a plugged screen in the resevior, debris in the flow restrictor in yhe hose leading back from the gear assembly or a problem with the cooler, which I hope it still has in place. A restricted return would also explain the whining noise. I will not address the gauge issue other than to advise you to take it to a ruputable repair facility for an accurate diagnosis. As far as the code 66 your scanner read, I cannot help you. 1996 and newer vehicles use P codes for engine and emission related DTC's. I have no reference for that code whatsoever.
