Chrysler Repair: car shuts off while driving, jeep cherokee, engine computer

Question
I have a 2009 grand jeep cherokee. For about two months now it has been shutting off on me while driving down the road.Once it shuts off i have to pull over put the car in park and then it will restart.  I took it to the dealership and told them what was wrong and they did not have any answers for me.

Answer
Hi Natalie,
Try to get a readout of the engine computer memory using your ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window of the instrument cluster to see if the mileage reading changes to show a four digit number preceded by a P instead of the mileage reading. Let me know what happens. If nothing changes then go to an Autozone parts store where they will usually do the same sort of readout using a plug-in device and give you the numbers that way, for free. That is the best approach to this problem.
I have a suspicion as to what is doing this, but a readout code number would be more accurate.
