Chrysler Repair: 04 jeep libirty will not shift: code 0734, solenoid pack, private option

Question
my 04 jeep libirty will not shift out of 2nd gear codes i got was 700,734 is this a transmission speed sensor?

Answer
Hi Tim,
This is saying that the gear ratio expected when in 4th gear is not what it should be. That causes the 2nd gear only behavior, called 'limp mode' which is designed to protect against unnecessary damage.
It might be a speed sensor issue, but it could be an internal clutch problem, ot possibly a valve body or solenoid pack issue though those latter causes should also show a code. Rather than jumping to any conclusion a proper diagnostic workup is necessary using the proper test tools. The manual is 4 pages long and I can copy these and attach them to an email sent directly to you. To do that I need your email address which I don't normally see. So send me back a follow-up question but be sure to select the 'private' option and in the text tell me your email address.
In the meantime, you may be able to avoid limp mode by first disconnecting the battery for a minute (remove the - post clamp. then reconnect) and then avoid 4th gear by not allowing the shift lever to be in that position. It will reduce highway mileage slightly but avoid limp until this is resolved.
