Chrysler Repair: how to replace the boot around the shift knob., 2004 chrysler 300m, chrysler 300m

Question
The boot that connects the shift knob to the dash on my 2004 Chrysler 300m has become detached and items are falling down inside the car.  How can I take the dash apart to reattached the leater boot?
I have been checking to see how I could take that portion of the dash apart hoping to fix it myself.  When I pull on the sides, it feels like it might come apart but I have now cracked the plastic area around the ashtray.

Hi Trudy,
I assume that you have the floor shift type of gear shift. If not let me know.
There are about 3 pages in the '04 manual that show how to remove the console that surrounds the gear shift lever and knob which I can copy and send to you by email as attachment. Send me a follow-up question but select the 'private' option. Then tell me you email address in the text of the message. As the 'expert' I don't see the email otherwise unless you tell me specifically.
