Chrysler Repair: 1999 Dodge Intrepid: starter failing due to oil leak?, valve cover gasket, 1999 dodge intrepid

Question
I have  a 1999 Dodge Intrepid whom various mechanics have replaced my starter stating that there is an oil leak that leaks into my starter. Well I'd like to know if you have come across this problem and/or have any suggestions how to rectify this problem so I won't have to keep replacing my starter. Third starter in a year and a half. Something is very wrong!

Answer
Hi Kelly,
I suppose it could be either a rear crankshaft oil seal or the torque converter of the transmission part which attaches to the rear of engine which are (one or the other). Do you see  engine oil or pinkish transmission fluid under the car where you park it? Are you aware of loosing either types of fluid and needing to refill more than typical. If so then that could be getting into the starter but I don't see that as being very likely a cause of starter failure. Have you had to replace these starters at your own cost are did you get some discount because of a warranty? Where do things stand today as regards your current starter.
Alternatively, it might be a valve cover gasket on the side of the engine that is just above the starter motor which would be easy to fix. Has any mechanic said where they believe the oil is emanating from?
