Chrysler Repair: 97 ford expedition, 4 digit numbers, exhaust gas recirculation

gas was about 50 miles to empty and i got home for lunch and wouldn't start when i tried to go back to work. i put more gas in it with fuel injector cleaner and tried to start it. nothing. i sprayed starting fluid in it and it will start but immediately dies. what would cause this?

Hi Joe,
I don't know Ford engines but I would check the egr valve (exhaust gas recirculation) to see if it is stuck ajar. Also try to get fault codes. On the Chrysler you turn the key on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then count the flashes of the check engine light or watch the odomether to see if some 4 digit numbers show up.
