crack in housing
I own a 1999 Chrysler 300M and recently a problem has arose with the ignition/starting system?? The car will occasionally not start. The engine will crank but won't start. When this happens I can go into the engine compartment and open the power distribution center and wiggle the housing and several of the relays and fuses and then the car will start. I have pulled the fuses and relays and checked the connectors for corrosion and tightness and all appear in good condition. The housing looks like it separates into 2 halves and the top half has a crack in the corner by the positive battery connector that runs down the left side and around the back of the top half of the housing. I have tried to separate the 2 halves but I cannot separate them I haven't tried to forcefully as I'm concerned that I might further damage the housing. Is the top half removable? and if so how?

Answer
I would not try to separate the halves. Rather try to figure out which of the items that you have tried to wiggle is causing the no start and focus on that specific item. So the next time this happens move each item, one at a time, then try to start, until you find what corrects the problem. Also try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see the mileage change to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. That might be a clue as to which circuit is flakey and let us dircect our focus to it. If you get a localizing idea let me know and we'll go from there.
