Chrysler Repair: thermostat location: 2.7L, radiator hose, japan design

Question
On my 2000 sebring lx  2.7dohc. is the thermostat under the cooland bleedoff housing?

Answer
Hi Tim,
No on that engine it is at the lower left side of the engine block at the front edge. The thermostat housing has the lower radiator hose and a heater hose nipple. You will need to remove the accesory drive belt, then lift the front of the vehicle on that side and remove the generator*. That is the instruction from the '98 LHS manual for that engine but check out whether you need to do that on your 2.7L. But the LHS engind is not crosswise. On the otherhand, my '00 Sebring sedan manual doesn't mention there being a 2.7 option. Is your '00 VIN first digit a 1 (US made sedan) or a 3 (Mexico made coupe)? That evidentally was a transition year from the Japan-design Sebring coupe body to the American design/build Sebring sedan.

*On the lx sedan by '04 the instruction also included:remove the right wheel well splash shield,  remove the wiring from the generator, the wiring for the ac clutch and ac pressure sensor, and the dipstick tube (plugging the hole where the dipstick tube goes). And begin by removing the lower generator bolt after lifting the front, and the last thing before taking off the hoses is to remove the other bolts to take out the generator.
